Album Review: Katy Perry-Prism
7:53 PM
This may sound corny but Katy Perry changed my life for the better in the summer of 2008. As soon I heard "I Kissed A Girl" I knew that this little lady was not going away any time soon. To say that I was obsessed with Katy Perry in the 9th grade would be a bit of understatement. Her music along with her quirky fashion sense was extremely captivating. Her second studio album "One of the Boys" will always hold a special place in my heart. Songs like "Hot N Cold" and "Waking Up in Vegas" will forever be a few of my favorite songs to sing in the shower.
Sadly, when the "Teenage Dream" era (2010-2012) came about my love for Katy dwindled down. Don't get me wrong, I still liked her and her music but it's only so many times a person can listen to "California Girls" and "Fireworks" on the radio and remain sane. "Teenage Dream" and it's second installment was full of Top 40 hits that were a little too mainstream for my taste.
I almost lost hope completely to becoming a big fan again but then I heard "Roar",the first single on her new album, and fell in love with it. It's so empowering and catchy that I just can't help but sing it out loud and dance around like an idiot every time I hear it. Songs like "Legendary Lovers","Walking On Air", and "Dark Horse" are a few of my favorites on the album because they sound like nothing Katy has ever done before. On the contrary, songs like "Birthday" and "International Smile" have a strong 80s influence and sound similar to many of the songs on her last album. The rest of the songs are a bit more slow paced and sentimental and would be a nice alternative to the boring music that I hear in the student lounges. Overall, I think that the album has a very distinct sound and all of the songs were very well produced. I definitely recommend it for the hard-core KatyCats or the regular person who likes dancing uncontrollably.
Feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you think about Katy and her new album :)
